While "coney island" is a reference to a particular preparation of hot dogs, probably invented in Detroit, in the metro area, the term has come to be ubiquitous with what the rest of the Midwest would simply refer to as a diner. We visited this location to try their "coneys" and were very pleased with the menu, service, food, and value. Dix coney sauce is more of a traditional chili, but a tasty treat none the less. They use Dearborn brand wieners, which are a local favorite and high quality. The fries were great, the server top-notch. They have a full menu, breakfast (anytime) lunch, and dinner entrees, and over the top cakes if you've a mind to have dessert. Good show, Dix people!!
Having a light night cheese burger here is always a delight. Always a good crowd here remember it's open here 24/7. But from my experience it doesn't matter what time it is here all shifts bring excellent service and a nice crowd that is either coming from club or work. But at around 12 there is not sitting just order to go. Try all the cakes and definitely order the cheeseburger with fries. And once you get a chance to dine in the place brings back a nostalgic feeling. That is all. Chief I don't ever miss the past I just learn from it.
Dix Coney is what you expect and love about Detroit area coney islands. Good food at a great price with friendly service is exactly what you will find here. The food is Coney Island fare and not gourmet so do not set your expectations as such. Breakfast items are served all day and I highly recommend giving their omelettes and pancakes a try. The true thing that makes Dix stand out from the field of other Coney's is how absolute friendly everyone is and especially understanding of children. Came in with my two young grandsons and I do not think we have ever received better service than we did here. They were even offered drinks to go and a refill. This was definitely not expected and was greatly appreciated. Stop in and give them a try and support local business of truly hard working honest people.
